Saxophonist Sonny Rollins is one of the most important jazz instrumentalists of the past 50 years. This 1955 monaural recording is considered one of his finest sessions and was essentially his first as a leader. The Plus 4 is essentially Clifford Brown and his group at the time: pianist Richie Powell, bassist George Morrow, and the father of modern drumming- Max Roach. Song selections include then-new originals “Valse Hotquote; and “Pent-Up House” and such standards as “I Feel A Song Coming On” and “Count Your Blessings”. This Mobile Fidelity SACD re-mastering finally brings the digital sound quality up and beyond the standards of the original Prestige record. Liner notes by jazz critic Neil Tesser include a new interview with Sonny Rollins.
