Survivors of the British musical invasion of the 1960s, the Kinks along with the Rolling Stones, and the Who remain a seminal influence and inspiration upon the vernacular of popular rock and roll music, it’s history, and its evolution. Founded by brothers Ray and Dave Davies, songwriting genius and innovative rock guitarist respectively, the Kinks were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990.
Low Budget, featuring the hit song “Superman”, is among the band’s most popular studio albums. It was recorded for the most part at the legendary Power Station in New York City and sported a contemporary production for the era that oddly enough appealed to both arena rock fans and new wavers alike.
The album is revealed in its full light by Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab’s proprietary GAIN 2™ (Great Ambient Information Network) mastering process. This process enabled the maximum amount of musical information to be extracted from Ray Davies' original master tape. This information was then stored transparently as a pure Direct Stream Digital (DSD) and delivered to end users as a dual hybrid SACD. Generally considered among the Kinks best-recorded albums, this edition also features extensive, new, illustrated liner notes and three additional single mixes.
Ironically, present day world events bring renewed meaning and lyrical relevance to this 1979 gold album, as songs such as "A Gallon Of Gas", "Low Budget", and "Pressure" easily lend themselves to contemporary interpretation.
